Week 3: A Seedling
seeds grow in lonesome darkness
Seedling
You were
a seedling
a dream
a sunrise
a poem
a creative force
a troubled soul
a lament
a sunset
a memory
a seedling
buried deep
Description: This poem is a lyrical elegy that circles grief and remembrance. Through repetition and simple, elemental images—seedling, sunrise, sunset—it traces a life’s arc from possibility to loss, then returns to the image of burial as both ending and potential renewal. The closing repetition suggests that what is buried is not only gone, but transformed, holding the quiet promise of growth.
For me, this poem brings to mind a young person I knew who died too young. But it is also about us, and how to deal with the loss of anyone or anything. Grief is healed through remembrance. Even when we lose someone, they can still live on in the soil of our memories.
Reflection: Is there a grief you are still holding from the death of someone or something? What's one positive aspect you can recall to keep the memory alive in you? What is something that you may need to lay to rest to move forward?
