Week 11: The Abyss
truth bears witness in lonesome darkness
The Abyss
Don't be afraid of the abyss
its infinite darkness
or its percipient shadow
for in the deep black nothing
hides the truth
of all we are.
Description: This poem is a brief, meditative reflection on fear and self-knowledge. Using the abyss as a metaphor for inner depth and uncertainty, it reframes darkness not as something to be feared but as a space of revelation. The long pause before the final line deepens the effect, suggesting that what we most avoid looking into is where the truth of who we are quietly waits.
Reflection: Are you afraid of what you'll find (or not find) in the abyss within you? What makes you most afraid to slow down, listen, and look inside? Can you take a a few minutes this week (before you get out of bed in the morning or before you go to sleep at night, before you turn on your computer to work, while you're eating a meal, or walking your dog...) to drop down into your cavern soul to see what truths may be waiting there for you to discover?
