Week 15: Some Distant Shore
the heart heals in lonesome darkness
Some Distant Shore
I wandered on some distant shore
weary-eyed and worn
pregnant with regret and grief
morose from childhood sores
I stumbled in the granular sand
the earth between my toes
lost and found
and losing faith
and yet becoming more
Reflection: This poem is a reflective journey through weariness, doubt, and becoming. Some distant shore symbolizes a new beginning, a new chapter, or even a new year, that can be both scary and liberating. It shows that we can be burdened by the past (regret, grief, and the lingering wounds of childhood), yet still move forward. The closing turn suggests quiet transformation—faith may be faltering, but growth continues—framing the poem as a meditation on loss, resilience, and the slow work of becoming.
Reflection: What new shore or beginning are you setting out on? What are you seeking (adventure, growth, atonement, etc)? What is at risk to go and what is at risk to stay where you are? If what ways are you already becoming more?
