Week 2: Wildflowers
seeds grow in lonesome darkness
Wildflowers
I dreamt of living off the land.
Simple. Free.
Like wildflowers.
Owning nothing and being owned by nothing.
Untamed. Reckless.
Moving as the wind.
Unencumbered by ideology.
Natural. Open.
Imitating animals to become more human.
Rooted like an old-growth forest.
Sound. Hale.
Touching the ground to liberate the soul.
Description: This poem is a quiet manifesto for freedom and return. Using natural imagery and simple, declarative lines, it imagines a life unowned, untamed, and deeply connected to the earth. It is a rejection of ideology and possession in favor of instinct, rootedness, and embodied wisdom, suggesting that becoming “more human” requires listening to the natural world and grounding the soul in what is elemental and true.
Reflection: What aspects of nature appeal or call to you? How can you be more free like wildflowers or grounded like an old-growth forest? When can you take some time to spend in nature this week?
